The gaming world came to life at the Electronics & Gaming Expo (EGE) held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), 29 – 31 May 2015. It was Cape Town’s first gaming expo and drew approximately 10 000 visitors to the centre over the three days.
With South Africa having over 3.5 million casual gamers EGE South Africa provided a spectacular platform for the gaming community. Gamers went on an interactive virtual experience and got to see, touch and feel what this booming industry had to offer.
“Hosting the Electronics & Gaming Expo at the CTICC was an easy decision; the centre is driven by creating exceptional experiences – which is our quest in the gaming industry. We wanted these gamers to be completely immersed in this global market which is valued at over 100 billion US dollars according to Gartner Inc.”, adds Johnny Malherbe, EGE Organiser.
“CTICC has become renowned for consumer events that cater to the diversity of Cape Town’s people. We have managed to host events across a broad spectrum of sectors and were honoured to present this premier one-stop gaming experience to the Mother City”, adds CTICC Chief Executive Officer, Julie-May Ellingson.
The comprehensive event showcased the very best of what the local gaming industry has on offer: games and consoles, technology, gadgets and accessories, animation, development studios, internet and cell phone providers, home theatres and TV projectors. Gamers also got the opportunity to participate in various competitions, tournaments and arguably one of the highlights, Cosplay – the practice of dressing up as a character from a film, book, or video game.
