    Winning awards strengthens the SCC’s leading position

    Sandton Convention Centre has proudly notched up two more coveted industry awards in the enviable collection it has gained since it opened its doors. It won the Best Venue in the Large Conference Venue category in the Business Traveller Africa (BTA) Awards, as well as the Favourite Technical Venue category for the seventh time in recent years in the Technical Production Services Association (TPSA) Awards, as voted for by the technical suppliers to the industry.

    The BTA Awards, presented by Future Group and researched by TNS Research Surveys, is an event for the South African business travel trade, covering all aspects of business travel, which includes hotels, airlines, car rental and travel management, along with related categories. The BTA Awards were launched last year in recognition of the brands or entities that excelled in the areas of overall experience and service offering to the business travel industry, which is responsible for a large portion of the continent’s travel spend.

    “We have always strived to be the best large conference venue in the country – and we are proud to have won this accolade for the second time in the second year the BTA Awards have been held. It means we are upholding the high standards we set for ourselves and serving the industry and business tourism in South Africa well,” says Mati Nyazema, Sandton Convention Centre’s Executive Director.

    To add a cherry on the top, Sandton Convention Centre’s holding company Tsogo Sun also won the Best Hotel Group category at the Business Traveller Africa Awards.

    Nyazema says the BTA Awards are already proving to be a prestigious event on the industry calendar, attracting the movers and shakers of the industry and giving guests an opportunity to network, discuss and debate a sector of tourism that is growing strongly.

    The Favourite Technical Venue category in the Technical Production Services Association (TPSA) Awards is also a source of great pride for Sandton Convention Centre which has strived to achieve and maintain the highest standards in technical excellence throughout its 14-year history.

    “Sandton Convention Centre offers some of the most advanced technology available for convention centres anywhere in the world and we are delighted that, year after year at the TPSA Awards, we are commended for the fact that no other venue offers the level of versatility and advanced support technology as we do,” says Nyazema.

    The TPSA is an association of members who operate within the live entertainment and events industry and includes individuals employed as professionals in the technical aspects of the industry, companies supplying technical services for the production of events, conference and event organisers, and associate membership from the retail, wholesale, manufacturing and distribution sector and from venues.

    Nyazema adds that winning awards is important to Sandton Convention Centre. “It adds richly to our business. When we work towards winning awards in relevant categories, it helps our teams to think in a strategic and structured manner, analysing our business objectives and striving for the highest quality service. As a team, we believe that going the extra mile is the minimum standard for our business and the sense of achievement we gain ensures that we work hard to maintain those standards.”
