Is the VISA process hindering your business?

EXSA recently joined the TBCSA (Tourism Business Council of SA). The TBCSA is the umbrella organisation representing organised businesses in the South African travel and tourism industry. Their mandate is to Lobby the public sector, Facilitate identified industry programmes, Monitor and Influence macro-economic developments which impact on the industry for the purpose of building the pride, economy and the identity of our desti(nation).   Subsequent to EXSA joining the TBCSA, our GM Sue Gannon was elected to their Board.

Through the TBCSA we also have a communication Channel to BUSA. BUSA represents South African business on macro-economic and high-level issues that affect it at the national and international levels. Our function is to ensure that business plays a constructive role in the country’s economic growth, development and transformation and to create an environment in which businesses of all sizes and in all sectors can thrive, expand and be competitive.

One of the tasks that the Minister of Tourism has requested the TBCSAundertake is to collect and collate specific information in regards to specific examples where the inability to obtain VISAs for visitors, ie exhibitors coming into the country, has negatively impacted upon your business. Maybe you know of exhibitors who could not take up a position on an exhibition because their VISA had been declined or not processed timeously. Alternatively you may know of visitors or delegations who could not attend a show because of similar reasons.

The Minister has also offered to follow-up on behalf of Members specific significant debts outstanding from Government Departments. If you wish to pursue this please liaise with Sue at the EXSA office.
