As the biggest multi-sport games after the Olympic Games, the Asian Games are the most prestigious event organised by the Olympic Council of Asia, with the 18th edition held in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018.
The Games featured 463 events in 44 sports with 45 countries participating at 65 competition venues, supported by more than 13,000 volunteers on site.
On behalf of the Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC), GL events was selected as the General Contractor for the 18th Asian Games to provide overlay delivery for tents, barriers, containers, power, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, scaffolding, grandstands, media desks, interior fit-outs, and branding (look & feel, the event signature).
The Project Management team involved between 120 and 150 people from the Group from 20 different countries, as well as more than 1,000 local workers involved in the preparation and execution of the different phases.
GL events South Africa was approached by the group to provide infrastructure and crew members for this project. 24 Containers of stock was prepared and shipped to Jakarta-Palembang which consisted of more than 1500 pieces of furniture, 7100 square meters of flooring and over 11 800 square meters of Marquee stock. The teams from South Africa also contributed to the design, project and site management of the event. The Managing Director of GL events South Africa - Maxime Rosenwald was in charge of the project execution and in total the local branches sent 15 staff members to work with the GL events Middle East team in Jakarta.
