My background and education are in the field of Cartography/Mapping and Geo-spatial information management and analysis. I have a BSc (Hons) Geography degree from the University of Johannesburg, a Post-graduate diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University through the UNIGIS programme and a diploma in Cartography/Mapping. I have worked for a number of years in the property and telecommunications sectors.

In 2015, I started African Mamas Crafts (Pty) Ltd which works with a number of rural based co-operative groups in the Eastern Cape, Kwazulu-Natal & Limpopo. By working with rural women, we not only curb the challenges of rural-urban migration and urbanisation, but also improve the livelihoods of rural women. By working from home, our crafters have more time to focus on building a vibrant family and community life. African Mamas Crafts believes in the 3 pillars of sustainability and aims to build an organisation which is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.

On the environmental side, all our products are handmade and materials are responsibly sourced. Our jewellery and beaded crafts are manufactured from high-quality glass beads, our picnic baskets are robust and eco-friendly – handwoven using organic and natural materials which are sustainably harvested. The wire baskets are made from recycled telephone wire. All our products have been certified by Proudly South Africa and carry their logo.
